Taking Part - Craven, Harrogate and Local District Learning Disabilities Partnership

Transport Transport

MeetingThere was a Task Group set up to look at Transport, however because of the lack of attendance at the meetings the Task Group has now stopped meeting.

This does not mean that there are not things that need to be looked at.

This could be something that a ‘Project Group' could look at in the near future.

Pointing at the TimeThe issues that people did talk about were: - People had said they didn't like using big buses: - Transport not always being on time.

BusIn Harrogate the Public Transport has wheelchair accessible buses. In Craven a lot of the Public Transport buses are not wheelchair accessible, so people have to rely on adapted taxis.

Other things that people might want to talk about in future include: -

Buddies Better training for people to become more independent on buses.

Looking at getting some funding for a "Buddy Scheme". This is a way of paying a person with a Learning Disability to be a transport trainer.

TraingThe Partnership Board arranged training at Bradford College for 12 members of staff from various providers in Craven and Harrogate whose job involves helping people to travel independently.

It is hoped that those involved will use these skills not only with their service users but to also train other staff in their organisations.
