105 people came to the Better off in work? Benefit myth busters' workshop. The day gave people an idea of what employment and benefits help and support is available in our area, and we heard from people with learning disabilities about their experience of working and wanting to work. We had speakers from two organisations that help people to find and keep work - North Yorkshire Supported Employment Services and Working Links. Claire Barker the Disability adviser from the Job centre was on hand all day to answer questions. We had a speaker from the Citizens Advice Bureau who talked about what financial help is available for people when they are in work, how benefits are affected and how the Bureau can help. There was a chance during the day for people to talk to each other about what they are doing or would like to do during our table discussions. |
