Community Lives / Day Opportunities.
The modernisation of day services is one of the most important pieces of work facing our Partnership Board. When Valuing People consulted people with learning disabilities there was a clear and consistent message that current day services were not what people want.
The changes needed are much more than just a move from large day centres to small ones, people want lifestyle opportunities that are based upon them being real and full members of their communities, with the opportunity to have jobs, go to college, meet friends, relax and enjoy themselves. At the same time, the genuine need for families to have support to get on with their own lives must be recognised.
The Day Services Modernisation Task Group was re launched early in 2006 with regular meetings now well attended.
During the meetings it was brought to the groups notice that some people from the Craven area found it difficult to attend the meetings and bring their views to the Partnership Board.
After some discussion it was decided that it would be better to set up two seperate Day Service Modernisation Task Groups to represent both the Craven and Harrogate areas.
Following a workshop to promote the launch of the Craven area Day Service Modernisation Task Group in March 2007 meetings are now taking place in both the Craven and Harrogate areas.
Please note - June 2008, the Harrogate Day Opportunities Task Group has changed name and is now called The Community Lives Working Group.
